Mono is a collection of simple forms decorated with white on matt black clay, giving a kind of frosted effect. I loved the challenge of limiting myself to one colour only, and echoed the simplicity with linear motifs incised into the white vertical bands. Interiors are glazed with iron lustre glazes which fire to muted shades. Each piece is different, a one off design, so each has its own name! The designs are influenced by the 1930s fabrics of Edinburgh Weavers, a leading modernist textile company of the time.

Full description
With white on black decoration, this small flower vase fits in with any room scheme, urban or country style. Genevieve is 14cms tall, with a glazed interior to hold fresh flowers. On the outside I have created panels and abstract stripes, with incised sgraffito decoration revealing the black clay beneath. You can see the different panels and patterning in the images, and how flowers can set off the designs. My motifs are lines, curves and emerging seedling shapes, while on the base you’ll find my maker’s mark of a swallow in flight. Genevieve looks at home as part of a group of Mono pieces as you can see in one of the images, or can stand alone as a focal point.
