An octagonal smoke-red-grey porcelain jar with colour variations reflecting the melting and thickness of the glaze on the lid top and in the stamped markings. The glaze is transparent red-grey where thin and rich red where thicker. Where it has pooled in the texture marks inside the colour is dark red. This hand-builtjar is perfect for spices, condiments, herbs, keys or your small precious items. The jar was built using a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- The jar is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 6cm tall and 9cm wide.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9519.
I love making lidded jars because I am told by returning customers that they often get used regularly. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that fits into their daily routine. I take care to make my jars with a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of their use. The top of the lid is slightly concave to retain a layer of red glaze in the texture marks . The lid and wall have a small gold lacquer dots to align lid placement. There are strong reds inside and a stamped medallion outside to add visual interest. The white unglazed base is also texture-decorated for further enjoyment when handling.
