The Chough is our rarest crow and it was a real treat seeing them on Islay. This piece was made as part of an exhibition celebrating all our Corvids.

Choughs, a member of the crow family, have been on my 'wish to see list' for ages and when we were away on Islay I finally got the chance. We heard about a spot where they were often seen, headed up went on a big walk only to catch a glimpse of one flying off. However, when we got back to the car there were about 30 of them feeding just a few metres from where we'd parked!
In this piece I wanted to show the contrast of their bright, curved bills and black plumage so I've used a lovely black linen for the body and bright embroidery thread for the beak and legs. I use my sewing machine as a drawing tool, using stitch to define my pieces and capture the spirit of the birds and animals I portray.
This unique embroidered piece comes mounted in an acid free white card mount with backing, ready to frame. The mounted artwork will arrive with you in a cellophane wrapper and will be posted out in a padded envelope to protect it. The mount measures 40.5 x 30.5 cm and the picture aperture measures 29 cm x 21 cm.
