I love watching the birds in my garden and on my walks and observing their different characters. I make lots of drawings as I'm watching and these often become the basis of new pieces of work.

Full description
We have a pair of Mute Swans who bring their cygnets onto the burn beside our house each year. I love watching them grow into elegant swans and I love seeing their devoted parents look out for them!
Using my trusty old Bernina sewing machine, each swan is free machine embroidered onto a layer of beautiful off white silk, embellished with embroidery and a beady black eye and backed with felt. Once I've added all the details a brooch back is hand sewn in place. Each one is unique and has it's own little character. They measure around 7 cm long.
