I am intrigued by the copper red glazes in Oriental ceramics such as those from Song dynasty. I have been trying to obtain the rich red flambe blue colours that can be found on special pieces. Often the glazes turn out red and white but this is fine where it graphically emphasises the wheel-thrown texture marks, as on this mug. There are only certain parts of the kiln where the red flambe blue colour can be achieved but customer feedback indicates that it is worth trying.

A red blue flambe glaze breaking to white on a porcelain mug. The glaze is transparent with crackle where slightly thicker towards the base and at the base of the lightly textured handle.
An elegant wheel-thrown porcelain mug with a raised hand centrally stamped internally. The foot is unglazed white porcelain flat so that it does not retain dishwasher water. The mug is perfect for a calming start to the day.
The mug was thrown with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- As with all my pottery, items are food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
- The mug measures approximately 10cm tall and 9cm wide excluding the handle and holds about 0.3 litres (half a pint).
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9752.
