An octagonal porcelain vase showing colour variations reflecting the melting flow of the copper red glaze into the deep texture marks and into the imprints of the raised hand and auroch (prehistoric oxen). Where the glaze has pooled there are areas of flambe blue.
The hand-built porcelain vase will add an unusual focal point to your home. Great for showing off fresh or dried flowers or simply display just on its own.
This vase was made with a UK porcelain and after biscuit firing the glaze was applied in two layers. Finally the piece was fired to 1300C. This makes it impermeable and very durable.
- All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- As with all my pottery, items are food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
- The vase measures approximately 22cm tall and 8cm wide.
- The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9618.
My interest in vases relates both to function, in displaying arrangements of flowers or other material, and to their sculptural potential. I enjoy designing for when the vase will remain empty and the appeal will be in its sculptural form, surface treatment and colour. This may be supplemented, as with this vase, by employing motifs from prehistoric cave paintings, an auroch and a hand print. Fabric textures provide a contrasting surface to make impressed marks appear more graphic. However, this octagonal vase can also be a functional vessel and help the owner to create an original and eye-catching display.
