This piece uses the wonderful Filling The Void stripcut technique developed by Vitrum Studios and shared through their elearning books. I love the need for precicse cutting to enable the regimented pattern to form.

Made from 198 individually hand-cut pieces of glass, the hidden secret of this bowl is that, despite what you see, it isn't black and white. What you think is black is deep amethyst and dark aqua blue translucent glass which reveals itself against the light.
The individual pieces of glass were slowly fused into one square piece measuring 1cm thick. It was then coldworked by hand to even the edges to a smooth surface before returning to the kiln for a fire polish to return to a gloss finish. It then required a further 2 firings in the kiln to attain the deep bowl shape. Each 15 hour firing included a 2 hour anneal process to avoid thermal shock in the cooling process. The cutting and laying out of the glass took around 9 hours meaning this who piece has been a labour of love to produce that is impossible to attain in mass produced products.
Price includes postage and packaging within the UK. For delivery outside of the UK please contact me direct for postage costs.
The bowl measures 7cm deep and approx 28.3cm diagonally.
