Well, who doesn't love a dragon?

The Celtic border patterns are always a bit of a challenge, but I wanted to do something that would set the dragon off, and the crimson red and bright greens just seem to compliment each other so well.

Full description

Ok, so it's a Welsh dragon, not St George's famous foe - but maybe they knew each other? Perhaps they were rivals, I don't know...

Y Ddraig Goch is Welsh for The Red Dragon, and although the my dragon isn't exactly the same as the flag dragon, they might be related. I've given my dragon a bright green eye, but I'm not sure how that mischievous glint got there!

The dragon and the Celtic border were stitched by hand using a free-style method that gives lots of detail and depth. The Celtic border in particular takes ages to get right - I've used a split ribbon design that weaves the two colours together, and it's all carefully outlined in black for extra clarity.

I photographed it in natural light without the glass for clarity, although the finished piece is protected behind glass and framed in a black wooden frame that shows it off nicely. The embroidered piece is 5x5cms and the frame itself is 13.5x13.5cms, and is ready to hang or display.

Do you know someone who'd appreciate their very own dragon?
