When I first took one of my friends on holiday to Ukraine, we were in a bar and found out that the cocktail menu was a quick and fun way to start teaching the alphabet, with the great motivation that once you work out the letters, you can find the best cocktail to order!
When I started taking more friends on holiday with me, I decided to turn the cocktail menu teaching method into a set of cards, to make sure every letter was clearly covered and so my friends could prepare a little before we went.

Full description

A set of alcohol themed cards to help learn the Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet. The box contains 35 cards, 33 for each letter of the Ukrainian alphabet, 1 quick reference guide that lists all the letters, and one "joker" card that has a little guide to nastoyanka and nalivka - common drinks in Ukraine.

The front of each letter card is in Ukrainian, and shows the letter in both uppercase and lowercase, print and cursive. A type of alcohol that contains the letter is written in Ukrainian, with the letter being focused on in bold. In the middle of the card is an original illustration of the alcohol.

The back of each letter card describes how it should sound. There are a few examples of words in English which contain the sound of the letter, with the exact part that sounds like the letter highlighted in red. Underneath it shows how to pronounce the alcohol word from the front, the word split into syllables with the stress of each word marked in bold. In brackets is the English translation of the alcohol.

The cards are 6.2cm x 8.8cm and come with a handmade box. The cards and box are all designed and printed by Kim Onyskiw. The cards are not waterproof, but have been coated with a layer of varnish to help make them more durable.

This set of cards is a handy way to learn Ukrainian Cyrillic, aimed at adults. Whether you want to start learning the language, or are just planning a holiday to Ukraine and want to be able to recognise a few words in a different alphabet.
