This uses a technique developed and taught by the wonderful Vitrum Studio. This is the second piece I have made using this technique, but the first with a double layer of stringers which allowed me to create the tartan pattern.

Full description

This fused glass decorative candle holder has been created using hand cut pieces from sheets of glass and individual strands of stringer glass. Two layers of stringer glass have been arranged to create the tartan pattern and then capped with an iridescent glass to create the shimmering orange feature. Using a technique developed by Vitrum, the glass is fused in a specialist kiln to 800 degrees Celsius to form this wonderful pattern and bubble effect. After a careful annealing process to avoid thermal shock during cooling, the piece was put back into the kiln over a mould to slump into shape, with a second annealing cycle. This piece took over 3 hours to cut and construct and in total took 26 hours in the kiln to fire and shape. It measures approximately 10cm square and 9cm tall and is perfect to hold the larger tea light candles, or be used as a sweet or trinket bowl.

Price includes postage within the UK, unregistered.
