This is a Hand Carved and Hand Printed Lino Print I designed inspired by the array of different mushrooms I saw whilst on holiday last summer. I find a lot of inspiration from mushrooms and fungus, due to their unusual almost otherworldly shapes.

The design is printed on Acid Free 100% Bamboo A4 paper meaning the paper has a cream/ ivory tone. The Print Size of this design is also A4 and covers the whole paper size.

To make this design I started by making studies of a variety of mushrooms, then choose the most interesting ones to incorporate into one main design and translate the studies into shapes which would work with linocut. The illustrative step was exciting to me as I was able to play with line, scale and shape to create a peice that celebrates the variety found in mushrooms. When I was happy with my final design, I transferred it to the lino block and began to carve. When my carving was complete I hand printed the design onto paper using Essdee Water Based Block Printing Ink.

As the characteristic that drew me to mushrooms in the first place was their otherworldly nature, i decided to mix my Essdee Ink to make a unique shade of purple to highlight the magical almost alien qualities of mushrooms.
