Full description
The central glass bead would have been made in or around Venice between about 1880 and 1920, then exported to Africa to be used as currency. These beads usually bear the scars of their travels in the form of chips to the glass but this one is in remarkably good condition, making it quite rare.
There are two other small trade beads and two modern clay beads from Mali alongside new African glass beads and some vintage ones from the Himalayas.
Here you have a wearable collection of unusual beads from around the world. Lots to talk about!
