Trade beads were shipped out to Africa from Venice between the late 1880s and the early 1920s and used as currency. The two featured in these earrings are unusually small and delicate.
They have been matched with small glass beads made in Ghana from recycled bottles and small brass beads.
Trade beads usually bear the scars of their well travelled lived in the form of small chips, but these two are in excellent condition. They are called 'millefiori' beads which means 'a thousand flowers'.
They will be sent in a gift box and postage is free.
Please take a look at my other unique pieces of African beaded jewellery.
I like to use brass beads with African trade beads. I think it is more traditional and always seems to look 'right'.
