I was inspired by creating different textures and line quality using different embroidery stitches, and displaying them in an unstructured design.

A contemporary take on the traditional embroidery sampler. I have hand embroidered the black stripe on the fabric with bright colours, in an ‘freestyle’ organic pattern. Using neon thread, and contrasting colours together to create a burst of colour, texture and pattern.
The embroidery is framed in an oval hoop, which can be hung on the wall using the tightening screw, or propped on a shelf to display.
Stitched using DMC cotton embroidery thread, and Rico Neon thread onto thick black and cream cotton canvas, using chain stitch, fern stitch, french knots, whipped running stitch, herringbone stitch and feather stitch.
This piece is completely one of a kind.
The hoop measures 14cm by 10cm / 5.5’’ by 4”. The back of the embroidery is covered with a card disc. The embroidery is wrapped carefully in tissue and popped in a sturdy cardboard envelope before posting.
