Beautiful SPALTED Chestnut coffee table with naturally finished hairpin legs.
This piece is very heavy and SOLID.
Windfall sourced from within 25 miles of this workshop is a large wonderful piece and is unique which allows the natural form of the wood to flow & express itself. Very little shaping has taken place and is truly a one off. In fact, if it doesn't sell we'll use it in our office! (we love it!)
The size is approx 1 meter across by 720 mm width and 160mm (6 1/2") depth.
Of Horse Chestnut, the wood was naturally seasoned externally for 9 years prior to being worked on. This guarantees as much as possible a stabilised piece. The table has many lovely and intricate features such as spalting across the whole top (a fungal colouration which if controlled leaves a unique and beautiful pattern).Other natural 'defects including a few old woodworm holes give it character and age even though a new made item.
Other natural features left on the piece include bark sections and knots in all manner of shapes and sizes including indents, grooves, blended form, and spikey outcrops.
Finished in beeswax and polished to a high lustre this table will complete any setting or act as the centre piece for a room, being safe in the knowledge there is only one like it in the world..
