Shop Announcement:

Welcome to my shop. Everything I make is a one-off. If something has caught your attention but isn't quite what you had in mind then get in touch to see if I have anything similar not yet out on the shelves or to see if I can make one to your order.
All my work is glass enamel on a copper base. I buy the copper shapes and then build up and fire layers of enamel that decorated over them. There is always a layer of enamel on the reverse. This balances the tension to which the decorated surface may be subjected as layers are added to it. It also means that generally there is bare copper copper only on the edges of the shape or where it has been scraped away allow me to solder a brooch bar or to remove rough protusions from the base of a bowl or dish.

After building up a base of several layers of clear enamel on the copper dish I have added a coat of royal blue enamel. After firing that coat I scattered white enamel powder around the centre and added pink enamel to it. The pink is transparent and needs to be fired over white to be seen. When the dish was at red hot in the kiln I disturbed the surface of the enamel with a steel point to make the unique patterning that you see. In places and depending on direction and intensity of light striking the dish, the copper colour of the base dish shows through the royal blue in tones of golden brown.
The dish is counter-enamelled; a coat of enamel on the reverse, the second coat I apply when building up the layers, balances the tensions of expansion and contraction as the dish is developed. This coat will show marks of the stilt or trivet used to hold the piece at a minimum number of points while it is fired.
The dish measures 85mm in diameter and is about 20mm deep. It would be suitable for a dressing table tray or to set off a flower display, or table centrepiece.
Your dish will be sent, well wrapped, by Royal Mail, first class, signed (UK) for or by international signed for (Europe). If you prefer another delivery service please contact me before placing your order.
If you experience any difficulty placing an order please contact me through folksy to sort it out.
