Dartmoor is my inspiration, for this mug and just about everything I make. Once a week I make the short journey for my home in Ashburton on the edge of Dartmoor to Widecombe in the centre of the moors to a craft fair held there. The constantly changing weather, light, flora and fauna is almost unbelievable and never fails to impress and inspire.

A heather mug made by pressing a piece of Dartmoor heather into the mug whist the white clay is leather hard. The mug is then bisque fired with the heather in it, this burns away leaving the impression of the sprig behind. I rub copper carbonate into the impression to give the correct green of the stem and leaves, I then paint on the heather flowers. The mug is then dipped in clear glaze and fired again. It measures 8cm diameter by 12cm tall.
