We look forward to welcoming you to learn the oldest craft in our garden pottery studio at Woodsetton in The Black Country.
Our team is led by Lorraine Bates who trained under the UK's leading studio potters at Bath Academy of Art. Lorraine has made her living as a professional potter since 1986 in the industry in Stoke and latterly designer maker for numerous clients including the Victoria and Albert Museum, The National Trust, English Heritage, Kelmscott Manor; the country home of William Morris. Currently working on items for Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and Keswick Museum & Art Gallery.
Four to six Classes a month are held for adults over 16 in our Victorian walled garden studio. Commencing 10am-4pm, new dates are added to the website approximately three months in advance, or you can ring and set your own date we’ll in advance.
We have 6 electric potters wheels for those wishing to learn or to improve their throwing skills, and a wide variety of tools and equipment for hand builders and sculptors. We have a large and varied range of materials for those wishing to learn about, or specialise in, colours and glazing.

Firing and glazing of up to about 5 pots is included in your fee. These will be carefully dried, bisque fired and glazed and fired again for collection at a later date, usually up to 4 weeks depending on the weather.
We will email you a voucher and then the recipient can get in touch to book a day of their choice.

Even when I was a student making 200 pots a day in a dingy Black Country factory the act of shaping lumps of soft clay into useful pots was relaxing and hypnotic. Over the last twenty five years it has been a passion which I have pleasure in passing on to my visitors a few times each month. Engage your mind and hands to produce useful results and join me for a complimentary afternoon tea. These are my days off too!
