Living on the West Coast of Scotland, I love seeing Ailsa Craig on clear days. Often shrouded by winter cloud or summer haze, it has a real rugged beauty when it finally emerges. There is a theory that the modern name is an anglicisation of the Gaelic 'Aillse Creag' meaning 'Fairy Rock’.

This little hoop features Ailsa Craig, an uninhabited island located 10 miles west of the Scottish mainland in the Firth of Clyde. It is formed from the remains of a volcanic plug from an extinct volcano and is home to an RSPB reserve.

The embroidery is created using wool-mix felt, various cotton threads and tiny sequins.

All elements of the embroidery have been hand-cut and hand-stitched by me to my own original design. I also hand-painted the 3" (7.5cm) diameter wooden embroidery hoop used to frame the work.

The back of the hoop is neatly finished with a circle of white felt, signed by me. A hanging loop of white waxed cotton cord is attached to the top screw mechanism. If you prefer, the work can be displayed on a small plate stand (not included).

The textile art will be sent to you in a premium black presentation box (approx dimensions 10.5 x 10.5 x 2.0cm) lined with grey felt to match the background of the piece.

Please note that tiny variations in the hand-stitching occur each time I make the design into a finished piece, so the item you receive may vary slightly from the one shown in the photographs.

Postage to UK addresses is via Royal Mail 1st Class Large Letter service and always obtain proof of postage.
