I have built up a base of clear enamel over a copper dish then added a layer of cream. After firing this I added a line of white enamel across the dish and scattered transparent gold and orchid enamel that would show their colour over the white. When the piece reached red heat in the kiln I drew through the surface with a steel tip to create the unique, random pattern. The copper colour of the dish shows through the cream enamel, golden brown, and the dish has a textural element where the surface has set smooth but uneven after being drawn through. All of this affects the reflection of light from the surface of the dish, creating variances of tone and shade.
The dish measures 82mm in diameter. You might use it as a dressing table tray or a table centrepiece. Among other uses, customers at fairs have suggested that my dishes and bowsl may be just the thing to use to drop a tea bag on when you take it from your mug or cup or make good soap dishes.
Your dish will be sent by Royal Mail, first class, signed for.
