Many of the folk-tales on selkie folk have been collected from the Orkney and Shetland
In Orkney lore, selkie is said to denote various seals of greater size than the grey seal; only these large seals are credited with the ability to shapeshift into humans, and are called "selkie folk". Something similar is stated in Shetland tradition, that the mermen and mermaids prefer to assume the shape of larger seals, referred to as "Haaf-fish".

This whimsical clock made is made for the lovers of sea and water. In Scottish folklore the mermaid was referred to as a ‘selkie’. This clock depicts the crashing waves which is hand cut and filed then patina is painted on and sealed. You can see the tiny hand cut fishes soldered on and it is finished with hand engraved sea plants.
This is a self standing clock with the brass inscription ‘catch me by the sea’. A truly unique gift for the soul who loves being by the water.
