The wrens that live in our garden!
Although small and less colourful than some of our feathered neighbours, the wrens have a loud voice and lots of personality. I'm always intrigued at how they alter their shape too - one minute small round and inconspicuous, the next stretched up tall.
There's always something to see outside...

Hand embroidered textile picture of a wren on a log.
The little brown wrens that live in our garden have surprising loud voicees for such tiny creatures. They are curious birds, full of activity and courage.
I embroidered this study by hand using a method I've developed which I call "drawing with threads". The picture is built up using strands of embroidery thread and making stiches of various lengths and colours. It's time consuming but allows lots of detail to be added. The log is represented with a tiny piece of velvet ribbon - a touch of luxury.
The finished item is protected behind glass in an oak frame, ready for hanging. The stitched piece is about 35 x 35mm and the frame just over 10 x 10cms.
It was photographed in natural light without glass to show it as clearly as possible and I'm sure you know that screens and monitors do vary.
It would make a lovely gift for a gardener or a nature lover.
