Granite & Lichen colours are everywhere in West Cornwall. The carn in this LinoCut could be Carn Brea, Tregonning, Trencrom, any between St Ives & Zennor, or St Ives’ island. All spill scatterings of granite at their peaks.
This print's dwellings, are built from granite. I used to live in a small Porthleven granite fishermen’s cottage. The left house could be one of those, with its skilfully troweled pointing, graphically defining beautiful stonework when picked out by sunlight. The right one could be a miner’s cottage in any row edging Camborne or Redruth with their impressive granite quoins & lintels. The centre house, painted white glares back when sunlit, its brightness makes you squint.
Lichen loves granite, their colours complement each other beautifully. Coastal rocks are rarely without rich shades of yellow blots decorating their surfaces. It colours the roofs in rich yellow sometimes deep orange. Twas hard to decide for this print. In the end I chose the sunlit hue.
