This Necklace is made by collaging old tins that I collect. Which means that each one is individual. I have a large collection of tins and sift through them all to find the right colours. I try and pick colours as close as possible to the bird. In this case a Great Tit, which is a combination of yellows, green and bluey/black. Each piece is cut out with my piercing saw and filed so it fits properly.
The centre is walnut wood, with a silver backing, which the tins are riveted to.
The chain and clasp are also silver. And I have handmade the s shaped clasp.
The necklace comes in a recycled grey jewellery box with my name on it. And a tag with information on the bird.
Dimensions Bird: 50mm x 33mm x 2.5mm
Necklace Length: 47.8cm
This bird is inspired by the Great Tit. Who lives in woodland, farmland, and cities. This yellow and black capped bird is one of the larger tits. Making him a dominant bird among the flocks he flies with. More often than not he steals food from others. Beech nuts are a favourite winter food. And it's thought that without the Beech trees the Great Tit wouldn't survive.
