We have put 4gms of dried lavender in the hessian bag tied to the glass vase. We have included a sprig of artificial lavender tied with raffia and a purple spotted ribbon but that's for posting purposes. You could replace this with fresh lavender to give your kitchen a lovely, calming fragrance. If you do replace the artificial flowers, please reuse them rather than throw them away.

The vase is attached to the recycled scaffold board by a recycled coat hanger which has been curled and shaped to hold the glass vase in place. The coathanger is looped around a recycled nail which has been painted black.

The scaffold board has been in a rustic condition because we think it contrasts beautifully with the more delicate glass and lavender. A contrast between industrial and domestic.

You can use the dried lavender in the hessian bag to freshen your clothes drawers or put it under your pillow to help you sleep.

We already had the piece of board. Each board is different and this one seemed to be crying out for a rustic look.

We had the dried lavender and lavender sprig from another project and thought these looked fab against the colour and grain of the board - but then the question was, 'how do we put the two together'.

After doing some research we found the glass vase and a wire coathanger. They seemed to go together but we wondered how to attach them to the board. We had some Fair Trade knobs and hooks but none of them looked right.

We did some more research and decided to go with recycled nails. We ordered the nails from a stockist of recycled ironmongery and this is the result. Since making this board, we've come into an inheritance of old nails so we'll be able to use our own next time.
