To make this dish I first built up layers of clear enamel on the copper base. I then added a layer of green. Under some light the copper shines through the green in tones of golden brown or adds a metallic sheen to the green layer. Over the green I scattered a ring of white enamel and added scatterings of transparent enamel, gold and pink, that would show their colour if fired over white. When the piece was at red hot to fire the white, gold and pink enamel, I drew through the ring of white to create the swirled pattern. There is a textural element to the dish. Because the enamel is not fully fluid it will set before it has flowed flat; being glass it will set smooth. This dish has retained some of the uneveness where the surface has been disturbed to draw out the pattern.
I have applied one layer of enamel to the reverse of the dish. This counter enamel coat is the second coat of enamel I apply to a piece. It serves to balance the tensions to which the piece is subject as it is heated then cooled in the process of building up the decorated surface.
The dish measures 82mm in dameter and is 8mm deep at its centre.
Your dish will be sent by Royal Mail, first class, signed for in the UK; by International signed for in Europe. If you prefer another delivery service then please contact me before you place an order.
