Full description

This pendant is 22mm square. It is mounted to hang as a diamond shape from a 45cm, silver plated, curb chain. The chain fastens with a simple bolt ring.

I made the pendant by firing a layer of yellow enamel over a base of clear enamel then scrolling through small piles of blue and white enamel to create the swirled decoration. The scrolling technique involves drawing a steel point through the enamel while it is red hot, inside the kiln. I have to contend with a number of unpredictable variables, fluidity of the enamel, its rate of cooling when I have the kiln door opening, my remembering how the colours were placed on the piece once they are all at the same red heat. Consequently the final pattern is random and each piece is unique. Depending on the direction and intensity of the light striking the pendant the copper base may be seen through the overlying layers of enamel in tones of golden brown.
