This bookmark design is a collage featuring an illustration by Charles E Brock from a 1918 reprint of the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. The background is a beautiful blue marbled endpaper taken from an 1895 book More English Fairy Tales.
On the reverse of the bookmark is printed the quotation -
... Jane was therefore obliged to go on horseback, and her mother attended her to the door with many cheerful prognostics of a bad day. Her hopes were answered; Jane had not been gone long before it rained hard.
Measures 5.5 cm x 17.3 cm.
The bookmark is professionally printed on 400gsm board with a matte laminated surface for durability.
I have always loved an illustrated classic and imagined many a character brought to life by the words I was reading. A vivid imagination and a love of the beautiful marbled endpapers in many of the bindings made me dream of how the two could be collaged together and started me searching for the perfect juxtaposition of patterns and pictures with literary quotations.
