Pride and Prejudice bookmark. The front design features Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet and is a collage featuring a Victorian illustration by Charles E Brock from a 1918 reprint of the novel by Jane Austen. The background is a rich deep red and gold marbled endpaper taken from the book Havergal's Poetical Works.
On the reverse of the bookmark is printed the quotation -
"What think you of books? said he, smiling.
"Books-Oh! no.-I am sure we never read the same, or not with the same feelings."
"I am sorry you think so; but if that be the case, there can at least be no want of subject.-We may compare our different opinions."
Measures 5.5 cm x 17.3 cm.
The bookmark is professionally printed on 400gsm board with a matte laminated surface for durability.
I have always loved an illustrated classic and imagined many a character brought to life by the words I was reading. A vivid imagination and a love of the beautiful marbled endpapers in many of the bindings made me dream of how the two could be collaged together and started me searching for the perfect juxtaposition of patterns and pictures with literary quotations.
