This pretty bracelet has been made by hand using the Japanese technique kumihimo.
It has been created by threading on size 6 miyuki seed beads onto 8 strands of 1mm gold coloured satin cord. The colour of the seed beads used are a mixture of reds, browns and golds, giving this bracelet a lovely autumnal feel. I have then brought all 8 strands together using the above technique.
The cords have been finished with gold plated end caps and the bracelet is finished with a gold plated toggle clasp with a twisted design.
The width of the beaded braid is approximately 10mm (3/8") so is a chunky style bracelet that is a snug but not tight fit on a 16.5cm (6 1/2") wrist.
Kumihimo is Japanese for 'gathered threads' and was first done as a form of finger-loop braiding that has since evolved into a form of braiding that can be done using only cords, or with beads added into each knot.
The colours on this bracelet made me think of falling leaves in autumn.
