I wrote this story especially for Brixham Pirate festival and it is more suitable for older children than the other stories because there are a lot of place names in it that younger children wouldn't understand.
In old Brixham Town one morning in May,
The crowds were a-gatherin for Festival day,
And out of the cottages, both far and near,
Pirates were coming in all their best gear,
They had cleaned up their scabbards and dusted their coats,
Put a shine on their boots and polished their boats.
For pirates and smugglers and old buccaneers,
Were heading from Barnstable, Falmouth and Beer,
From Padstow and Newlin, Port Isaac and Crewe,
From Sennen, St. Ives and Boscastle too,
From Bantham and Beesands, Polperro and Tynemouth,
From Torcross and Salcombe and Hope
Cove and Lynmouth.
I live in a little seaside town, famous for its pirates. Each year we hold a famous pirate festival, when the town is crowded with thousands of buccaneers and filibusters. What better inspiration for my little Ragbag Pirates and their sea dogs - the Barking Buccaneers!
