Minimalist earrings with elegant twists of silver sheet threaded with ten tiny 1.8 mm 1/8" seed pearls, resembling bursting seed pods. This technique is one I borrowed from Roman cameo frames. They measure 45 mm in or 1 3/4" in length. I made them by hand at my home in Sussex by cutting silver sheet in to flat wires, piercing holes and then twisting the wire after threading the pearls through using sterling silver head pins. They are mounted on hand-crafted sterling silver ear wires and carefully placed in a gift box.
I love to research antique jewellery on Pinterest and some of my favourite pieces are antique cameos. They were carved from shells in Italy during the C19 for the rich people taking the "Grand Tour" and usually featured classical or religious scenes. Some of the best are set in gold shells with a surround of twisted wire and seed pearls and when I saw them I knew that I must try the technique for myself. Any resemblance to pea pods is entirely co-incidental
