This brooch has been designed and made by us in our workshop in Yorkshire, it is made from sterling silver and 24 carat gold, it is slightly domed and measures 30mm in diameter. The technique used is an ancient Korean one called Keum boo, where gold is fused to silver at a high temperature. Symbols and letters have been deeply punched into the silver by hand to create an interesting surface pattern. The surface of the brooch is given a worn effect to simulate the look of an antique or an archaeological object.
This Keum boo brooch has been finished with a clear, protective, anti-tarnish coating and it comes in one of our branded gift boxes.
We exhibit and sell our work through quality Craft/Design centres and Art galleries throughout the U.K. as well as through the Dazzle contemporary jewellery exhibitions.
Materials, sterling silver, 24 carat gold
Size, 30mm in diameter
This brooch is the largest piece of jewellery in our Keum boo range. The symbols and letters are punched into the metal by hand. We have numerous punches, a lot of them made by John, and letter stamps in various fonts. Every mark that we punch into the surface of the metal will dictate the next one. The aim is to get a pleasing balance and contrast of marks, not too many, not too few. Sometimes it is difficult to know when to stop, if we are not careful we can ruin the piece by making it look too cluttered and over busy.
