This is an original artist linocut print, NOT a reproduction.
I have printed the image using waterbased artist relief inks on Japanese Hosho printmaking paper. Each one is numbered, titled and signed in pencil underneath the image, in the traditional manner. The total edition run is only 7, since this was my first ever reduciton print, and I lost a few along the way!
This listing is for the print only, which I will send protected in a cellophane sleeve, rolled in a cardboard postal tube.
The paper measures 27.5 x 20 cms.
If you would like a mounted version, I have a few in my studio, so please just get in touch. They have been drymounted first onto archival, acid free mountboard and measure 27.5 x 21 cms. (The mount is 1.5 inches, or almost 4 cms, wide all round). The last photo is just to give you an idea of how it looks framed.
It has been designed, handcut, inked and printed by yours truly. These have been printed by hand using a tool called a baren, and so each print is unique and may vary slightly from the one in the photographs.
Purchasing an artist print, such as a linocut or a screenprint, is usually an affordable way of buying original artwork, since the artist has made the work in an edition, but it is still original and handmade.
Please just get in touch if you have any questions and thanks for looking.
I love pheasants, especially the beautiful feathers of the male. I have painted a watercolour of one, and am currently working on an acrylic version, so I chose to do a pheasant as my first try at doing a reduction (aka suicide!) linocut print.
A reduction print is carved in stages and at the last stage, the linocut is barely recognisable as only the last colour printing stage is left.
