I am inspired by all things weird and wonderful in nature and my ceramic forms often centre around themes of sea life. I create sculptural or illustrated forms that explore these interests but I prefer if my artworks have some function, as well as being beautiful and decorative. Plankton and diatoms fascinate me as they are such interesting forms and make amazing patterns. They are all around us when we swim in the sea and yet they are invisible, but are so important to sustain life. I like the idea of representing these seemingly insignificant beings, contrasting against the opulent real gold lustre on these forms.

Full description
Unique handmade porcelain trinket dish or serving platter with hand drawn Plankton and Diatom designs. The left dish in the second photo is now the only one available.
The dish was hand made using using the 'pressing' method to create the shape, then three times fired. The delicate designs are from my 'Weird Entities' series of microscopic sea life studies. My original drawings were printed as ceramic decals, hand applied, then fired onto these pieces, making them durable. The rough real gold lustre edging contrasts beautifully with the smooth and glassy white surface of the porcelain.
The tray can be used for trinkets like jewellery or as a serving platter for food (it would be great for sushi!), or purely as a decorative object. It is recommended not to wash in a dishwasher or use abrasives to clean.
