Wrens are such lovely birds with complex songs. They are brown and inconspicuous and can often be overlooked. I absolutely love these little birds, and am very fond of one that often visits our garden. I see it regularly while having my morning coffee at the kitchen table, and finally drew up some sketches.
This is really a celebration of this humble bird, that was actually called 'King of birds' in Europe, and also considered very lucky and auspicious in many cultures. Here's hoping that it will bring me some, and also to the lovely home where it ends up in!

Full description
This is a handmade etching made from my original design and sketch. I transfer this to a zinc plate and the design is etched using copper sulphate and wax resins in a complex process. Finally, the plate is inked and then passed through an etching press to give the final image.
In this case, the image size is appx 15 cm X 15 cm and paper size is appx 20 X 20 cm. The image is printed with cobalt blue in oil based etching inks and then handpainted to bring out the different textures of the background and the bird. Printed on velvet Somerset paper which has a smooth finish.
This is a unique one of its kind handmade artwork. I will send it loose and unframed wrapped in lovely acid free tissue paper and secured by mountboard so that it is delivered safely.
