I am inspired by all things weird and wonderful in nature and my ceramic forms often centre around themes of sea life. I create sculptural or illustrated forms that explore these interests but I prefer if my artworks have some function, as well as being beautiful and decorative. These dishes were inspired by my 'Whale Ship' print, which is an alternative take on a ship in a bottle, but also reminds me of the story of Moby Dick.

Full description
Unique and handmade ceramic sperm whale plate, with metallic silver sailing ship decal illustration.
This artwork was hand sculpted from porcelain, and decorated using a subtle pale blue glaze using the 'bubble glaze' technique (literally blowing bubbles into the glaze!). The piece was high fired for durability and decorated with a delicate hand illustrated ceramic decal, which was hand painted with shiny metallic silver lustre. The intricately patterned sailing ship was originally drawn in pen and ink, then digitally printed onto decal paper and hand applied to the dish.
The dish is food safe and could be used as an unusual serving dish, or could be purely ornamental. I will also include 2 hanging discs for the whale, so you can display as wall art if you choose. It is recommended not to wash in a dishwasher or use abrasives to clean. Heavy use with food could result in discolouration of the design.
