This primitive style of beehive was researched in order to create a hive that looks like an authentic hive of that period. This style of ancient hive was traditionally protected from the weather with a clay, horsehair and straw mix called daub. The process is shown up above. The Willow and, clay are collected from our woodland in Wales.
The Hive is made to order and the design can be altered slightly on request. You can decide on a handle or,where the entrance should be. Also the colour of the daub can be altered to become more brown or, black. I can also make the hive just in woven willow please see other listing in the Ecolistic Artworks shop. Thank you Tina
