I've had close to 20 sets of personal headphones, from the walkman days (or was that my dad) to present, they have all gone to landfill for the following reasons..
cases not strong enough
cases too fiddly so didn't use
cases break possibly because they were made of re-cycled headphone cases that broke
lost cases as I put them down somewhere and still haven't found them.
