After "le Tour" came to town in 2014, our part of Yorkshire became flooded with cyclists all retracing the route through the Dales. Although I am normally unsporty, I have since become hooked. This year, "Le Tour de Yorkshire" went through the coastal town of Whitby. I imagined them cycling over it's iron red bridge. The saltiness would be getting into their nostrils and hair and the sea-gulls going berserk, swooping and diving at such a strange sight of people in lycra zooming on two wheeled contraptions and invading their territory. I am particulary pleased with the middle sea-gull in front balancing on a lobster pot and staring at the viewer in the same way that Miranda does (or Larry Grayson/ Frankie Howard (for older people) did!)

Full description
This is a lino-print I designed, cut and printed on a hand-press in my attic studio.
It is not a digital print but an original limited edition print produced by hand. I am only printing forty of these images. This is number 14.
Firstly I draw the image onto a piece of lino. Then I carefully carve it out, (loosing the odd finger in the process) before inking it with hand rollers using various linseed oil based printing inks. It is then placed flat on my press, covered with Somerset Satin paper and the mangle like roller of the press is turned...
I have never lost the excitement of pulling back the paper on the press to see what is there! Doing everything by hand produces unique images every time as tiny differences in ink used or the roller weight of the press can alter the outcome. This is especially true when using lots of colours as in the image here. Every print using this method is quite different from the last so the print that you see above is exactly the same print you will receive.
Finally, in pencil, I sign it, adding the edition number and title.
The image size is 18 x 25cm which fits into a standard 30 x 40cm frame. And those bought from a certain Swedish store include perfectly proportioned mounts for this particular print too.
It comes sandwiched between boards and cellophane.
