Full description

This attractive stoneware vase was hand thrown on the wheel, and once leatherhard it was dipped in a dark, iron oxide slip. After the bisc firing, a crackle glaze was applied and the piece was fired to around 1270 degrees centigrade in a saggar with charcoal (a saggar being a sealed container made of clay). The inside of the piece has been left unglazed and is a dark grey-brown. The clay is fully waterproof so the vase may be used to display fresh flowers.

The vase measures approx. 3.75 inches tall and around 4 inches across. Mark Smalley's personal symbol has been impressed to the underside.

Please note that due to the matte, crackle effect, some of the glaze is raised above the surface and will not withstand hard knocks or heavy pressure. Also, the rough edges of the glaze extend below the base of the piece, so it may need to be displayed on a mat or cork pads to avoid scratching furniture.

Postage and packing for this piece will be at a fixed cost of £4.00 for delivery within the UK.
