This glass coaster was fused by me in my studio. The glass was heated up to around 800 degrees celsius in a small glass fusing kiln, causing the copper insertions to oxidise to a lovely red blue. It was then brought to annealing temperature to make it strong. When cooled, the edges were smoothed using a glass grinder. This whole process takes over 10 hours to complete.
This coaster has a copper bird within pale pine green tinted glass. It has been fully annealed to make it strong and is suitable for use with hot tea or coffee cups but not pans straight from the oven. This would make a great gift or stocking filler.
Not suitable for children - this is made from real glass and needs to be treated with respect - it may have sharp edges if broken. It is, however, made from thick annealed glass so is fairly robust for everyday use.
