Full description
Part of a set of three designs, this pendant is made from two layers of plywood sandwiching a layer of fluorescent orange acrylic in the middle. I designed the patterns and then had the wooden layers lasercut and laser-engraved. Lasercutting wood gives its edges a rich, blackened colour, which I think works well against the bright orange of the acrylic layer. I glued the layers for each piece together using a clear epoxy resin glue, which is very strong and hard-wearing, and waterproof. The wood pieces were then varnished with three layers of a protective water-based (skin-safe) clear varnish.
One side of the pendant has a pattern of circles and holes through to the orange layer, the other side has a design of fine interweaving lines and triangles. Wear whichever side takes your fancy...two necklaces for the price of one!
The pendant is hung on a 25cm (10" approx) long sterling silver chain, which has been oxidised to give it a dark / matt grey finish, the colour of which contrasts nicely with the orange acrylic and paler wood colours. Finished with a sterling silver lobster clasp.
Wooden shape measures 8cm (3" approx) wide x 3cm (1 1/4" approx) high.
