Some years ago I did a craft fair at Lotherton Hall, West Yorkshire. The fair was held in an education room approached through the Hall's aviary. The aviary included a fine selection of parrots. Shortly after I was able to buy parrot blanks for enamelling and I realised the possibility this provided for making pieces decorated with scrolled patterns. These are patterns made by drawing a steel tip through the enamel when it is red hot in the kiln. Inevitably, as the piece will cool rapidly, this is unpredictable work, it needs to be done quickly and certainly the patterns cannot be replicated.

I have made this brooch by laying yellow enamel over clear enamel and then scrolling white an green enamel over the yellow. In places the copper base shows through imaparting the impression of feathers and the irridescence of the bird's plumage.
The parrot measures 55mm from head to tail and is15mm at its widest.
The brooch is counter enamelled. It fastens with a 26mm brooch bar that I have soldered to it. The pin is secured with a safety catch.
The brooch is sold boxed as shown.
UK delivery is by Royal mail, first class, signed for.
