I imagined catching a bubble and turning it into silver to keep forever. Of course it's impossible, but there are ways of making something that looks just right. Silver filigree is perfect for the task because it traces a fine outline, through which the background can be seen and it is robust but not heavy or lifeless. The Labradorite beads suggest the rainbows that form on the surface of a bubble before it bursts POP*

My on-trend sterling silver filigree necklace is inspired by bubbles. It is asymmetrical in shape with two 6 mm Labradorite beads set either side of the filigree to make it look more "bubbly." Labradorite is a semi-precious gemstone that is dove grey in colour but has flashes of green, blue and violet deep within the stone. The Inuit people of Canada believe these colours are the Northern Lights, trapped forever in the stone. The necklace is very wearable, with the filigree section measuring 22 mm or 3/4" in length and would compliment any style or colour of clothing. I made the section using lots of sterling silver hoops in different sizes and thicknesses of wire I had made myself and then I soldered them together. The pendant section is set on a fine 2 mm belcher chain and fastened with a sturdy handmade hook clasp which I made myself. The complete necklace measures 450 mm or 18 3/4".
