I imagined catching a bubble and magically turning it into silver so that I could keep it forever. Of course it's impossible, but there are ways of making something that looks just right. Silver filigree is perfect for the task because it traces a fine outline through which the background can be seen and it's robust but not heavy or lifeless. The labradorite beads suggest the rainbows that form on the surface of a bubble, just before it bursts POP *

My on-trend filigree earrings are inspired by bubbles. They are asymmetrical with the 6 mm Labradorite beads set at different places in the filigree to make them look more "bubbly." Labradorite is a semi-precious gemstone that is a dove grey colour but has flashes of green, blue and violet deep within the stone. The Inuit people of Canada believe that these colours are the Northern Lights, trapped forever in the stone. They are a very wearable size, at just 37 mm 1.5" long including the ear-wire, and would compliment any style or colour of clothing. They were made using lots of sterling silver hoops in different sizes and thicknesses of wire, hand-made and soldered together by me. I handmade ear-wires and headpins for the drops from sterling silver in my West Sussex workshop in order to set these fabulous beads off.
