I first made the family of owls and then found the frame which I think matches up beautifully, both in colour and style, giving it a modern retro look.

This is a cute and quirky mixed media piece which combines hand sewing, paper crafting and assemblage.
The owls were all hand sewn with a rainbow space dyed cotton embroidery thread. They are securely stitched and glued to the swirly branch.
I have used a natural twig (that has been varnished), layered cardstock and wooden items to make a "branch" for the owl family to perch on. There is a sprinkling of faux moss on the swirly branch and twig.
I had a lot of fun putting this together and it required a lot of engineering to make sure that it was bonded securely to the frame. The frame is quite heavy and chunky and measures 17cm square by 6cm deep. It will be well wrapped in bubblewrap and a strong box.
