Houses and cottages feature in my ceramic work and one day I doodled into my sketchbook an imagined series of tiny worlds, encased in antique tins.
I set about scaling down my ceramic design to fit carefully sourced vintage tins.
This piece is inspired by loss, life and a deep desire to live each moment fully.

This is a really special, totally one off piece. A tiny world held inside a vintage tin. Three handmade porcelain cottages nestle into the ground made from real moss and sit in the backdrop of vintage lace and layers of hidden poetry.
The piece stands up with the tin lid open and needs no support to remain open. Perfect as a miniature work of art for your mantel piece, desk or dresser. The tin measures 11cm high when open. The closed tin measures approx 6cm high 8.5cm wide and 2.5cm deep.
The poem in the lid is Threnody by Emerson and reads -
The south-wind brings
Life, sunshine, and desire,
And on every mount and meadow
Breathes aromatic fire,
But over the dead he has no power,
The lost, the lost he cannot restore,
And, looking over the hills, I mourn
The darling who shall not return.
The poreclain house are made individually, fired and glazed. I treat the inside of the tin with layers of hidden text under paint and vintage lace.
This piece is really close to my heart and I would love for it to find a sweet resting place in your home.
