I was stripping the wallpaper off my daughter's bedroom wall and underneath there was some old folk style paper from 60's or 70's. It featured country children and birds. I based my bird on the bird designs on the paper.

Inside a box frame it becomes a special gift, a bird to treasure and light up your life.

Mosaic red folk bird on a background drawing of branches and leaves.

I found the drawing I had made some years ago stowed away safely in one of my portfolios. I had been reworking a story book made with my kids, and this particular drawing was going to be the background scene for the wise owl, one of the characters in the story. However the edited version was never realized, although the original story still exists.

The drawing is on dark blue card made with coloured pens and pencils.

The mosaic bird is constructed from wood, and tiled with glass mosaic tile, Venetian copper gold leaf glass and a milliefiori tile for the eye. The depth of the bird is approximately 16mm and fixed securely onto the drawing. Framed in a black box frame with plexi-glass, (or picture glass if you prefer).

The size is approx 22.5 cm x 22.5 cm, depth approx 4.5 cm.
