I make my pottery in my studio/workshop in Lancashire. I use a variety of stoneware clays and porcelain.
Stoneware and porcelain is the strongest form of ceramics. The glaze and the clay body are completely bonded together, so the glaze doesn't chip off the clay. The pots are fully vitrified. even with no glaze on the clay is non porous.
All my stoneware and porcelain is fired in my propane powered kiln in a reduction atmosphere. I think this gives the glaze more character and it radically alters the colours.
Firing the kiln from start to finish can last up to 24hours, and I have to continually adjust the flame and the kiln to get the desired effects from the glazes.
I make commisioned pieces, so if you have any ideas let me know

This pot was thrown in porcelain clay. While the clat was still soft it was scratched and carved with a wooden knife. The glaze has run and pooled in the scratched marks.
